This is a 2.0-litre supercharged V10 sportscar that you probably didn't know about

V10s are few and far between these days, so what if we were to say that there could have been one more added to the coveted list, a V10 sportscar built in Wales of all places? Mike Fernie takes you through the wonderfully strange Connaught Type-D Syracuse, with its narrow-angle, 2.0-litre supercharged V10. It doesn't get much stranger than this.
If you know anything about the Connaught company that can help us find this car, do get in contact via the links below:

  • Thank you to everyone who has DM'd me with regards to the Connaught, I've been absolutely inundated with your messages! Things are really coming together now and it looks like we may actually find an engine and a full car. Stay tuned!

I remember seeing it for the first time and I was actually impressed by the test mule build quality....plus the design team were so down to earth and cool.Alas after the photo shoot took place nothing had emerged from Connaught which was a shame😞.

  • I appreciate all the information you have provided on these beautiful V10 engines. Thank you. But please, oh please, can you use kilowatts, newton metres and kilometres per hour. Every country in the world is metric, even the UK and USA. I do not know what all these imperial measurements mean or their values. This is the 21st century, year 2020, please use metric only. The rest of the world will thank you. BTW, I see you have used litres for the engine size rather than cubic inches. Silly isn't it to combine metric and imperial where metric is so much easier to understand. Please, once again, no imperial measurements. They mean nothing to almost the entire population of this beautiful planet.

  • I think that the idea these blokes were the first to try to make a commercial torque band filled engine makes them ahead of their time likely isn’t true. The reality is that the concept of torque filling was envisioned decades ago or even centuries. Mathematical and physics minds have considered how to optimize these types of systems as far back as the creation of the steam engine. Becoming technically proficient to make use of these ideas is a different matter. It’s like the recurring story of abstract pure math and theoretical physics becoming solutions “out of the blue.” What this team endeavored to produce is still amazing but some perspective could help everyone appreciate it even more. Interesting video.

  • i mean it sounds great but i have so many questions. the main question being why? why 2.0L and not larger? seems kind of pointless and expensive to make a bespoke V10 to only turn around and get 300bhp and under 300lbft of torque. seems like this could have been done with a turbo 4 or na 6. why have a v10 with so many more moving parts than a 4 or 6? so many whys. so many.
