This is how Koenigsegg made 600bhp from a 3-cylinder engine

Getting 150-200bhp from a 3-cylinder engine is fairly normal these days, but how about triple that figure?! Koenigsegg recently released the Gemera - the first ever four-seater hypercar - and while it develops 1,700bhp in total, the most remarkable thing is that 600bhp of that comes from a 3-cylinder engine. As always, Christian von Koenigsegg has been as innovative as ever.

  • E85 fuel is quite common in the USA now. Partly due to GMs Flexfuel technology that's been around for about twenty years now. (Thanks to Koenigsegg, who licenced or sold the tech to GM a long time ago). E85 is currently $2.09/gal. and regular unleaded is $2.27/gal. For cheap 85 octane (vs 91 octane premium) here at high altitude in Colorado. (Everyone else gets 87/93octane). So it is no problem and even economical to obtain ethanol here in the Corn Belt of the USA.

  • The Gemera's engine sounds a lot like the 1981/84 Dodge M4S/Turbo Interceptor. It was a concept car that utilized a 2.2L Twin turbo inline-4. Most people get confused to say twin turbo and Inline-4 cylinder engine thinking I must mean a twin scroll turbo. Nope. Two Turbos. This engine made 200hp/L for a total of 440hp. Not overly impressive now, but in 1981... Yes it was impressive. Even earthshaking given it was much more powerful than MOST production V8s at the time. And in the MS4 it returned up to 28mpg.
