  • Despite not being a Porsche fan, it would be nice if other companies also pulled a Porsche on their best selling models, like Porsche does with endlessly bringing out new 911's. They look similar enough to be called a 911, but their interior and technology does improve a lot over time. Best would be if they just kept making the exact same car for decades, but that's insanity.

  • i dont really see a difference between bringing mini back and 'there should always be an m3'. The car company is telling us "this is the kind of car we want it to be" and failure to meet those expectations is always an option.

  • I disagree with regards to the mini, this was the design that has been pedals from BMW when they had owned mini, being designed by a designer who was within mini… It took a while, but it’s not as if it was a new car I thought up out of nowhere, they actually run the old one pretty much up to when the new one was launched. The only difference was because the old mini had remained in the same design for so long, to bring it up today was a massive leap instead of an incremental one over the decades

  • Surely how a car looks is so much of how we feel about them. The mechanics of basic modern cars are enough for 95% of us. Name may not matter but the shape and styling are so important. Give me an MG TD with a modern mechanicals. Aerodynamics might shave digits off the mpg numbers, but how a car looks is a major factor in selling them.

  • The Duesenberg was a hard point of the car landscape. The very first car to introduce the clutch/brake/accelerator arrangement we're all used to, all the meters and gauges we take for granted nowadays, or four-wheel hydraulic brakes, and many many more. And now what? Nobody even remembers.....

    • @Arun Parkin If we're talking about "hard points of the car landscape" it should not matter whether a given car was expensive or not. Bugatti Veyron was the very first factory car in all of history to go faster than 400km/h - during times when wind tunnels used for testing F1 cars would not even go up to those speeds - a totally new era, a totally new set of challenges. So following your logic everybody should completely ignore that car................. because it was very expensive.

    • But they were very expensive cars in their time and only the elite could afford them. In fact, owning ANY car in the 1930s would be a luxury, so not many people have memories of those cars. The memorable cars car usually from the post-war period.

  • How many of these dreams would become nightmares after the weekend honeymoon ? I doubt it would be as bad a ratio as those single chromosome bi- peds you all fancy testing the length of your dipstick in. How many of those break down and refuse to start after the wine bottle is empty hey. They won't even let you look under their bonnets you mad squirrels. And your putting down your nuts as downpayments with a vig you'll never dig yourself out of.

  • So far, I think that the Dodge Challenger has really been the only successful [true to original form] resurrected nameplate thus far...808bhp, ‘nuff said. Seriously though, the MINI isn’t exactly a truthful name anymore and the Beetle was just a Golf; to name a couple off the top. Plus some big block editions of the Challenger I’ve seen simply drip testosterone. Not many other cars can do that anymore aside from maybe the occasional higher level Mustang or Camaro, and a select few exotics.
